Bringing books to other children
Kyle and Brady Baldwin
We are brothers, ages 13 and 15 years old who have decided to try to make a difference in our community. We heard on the radio that many children do not have any books at all in their homes. We thought this was a tragedy because we have been fortunate enough to grow up surrounded by books. We decided to try to give out books to kids on our community. We live in Fairfield, CA. Linda from the Storyteller in Lafayette, CA donated new books to us and we started our program. We go to K- 3rd grade classrooms in schools that have been identified as low income and read a story to the children. Then, we spread out an assortment of new books (in both english and spanish) on a table and let the children pick their very own book. Once they have made their choice we put bookplates in them and write the children's name on the bookplate. It is very exciting to see the children pick out their books.
We need help to make this program successful. We hope to give out 720 books this year to k-3rd graders in three schools in our city. We need new books! We can buy books at a discount or accept books. You can see more about our program at www.myownbook.net. Please help us! You can reach us directly at 707 864 4046. We would love your assistance!
